Stained Glass Symbols and Emblems

The dove is a symbol of the Holy Spirit, especially when it is in a descending form.  Mark 1:10 This is a stylized version of an abbreviation for the Hebrew name for Jesus transliterated into Greek.
The rose usually shown in stylized form, has been a common Christian symbol since the 1200s. It may be used to represent the Messianic promise.  Song of Solomon 2:1 The lily  is a symbol of purity.  A particular variety which blooms in spring from a seemingly lifeless bulb, has become symbolic of Christ's Resurrection and is often used to decorate the church at Easter.  Hosea 14:5
Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, and thus refer to the eternal nature of Christ.   Rev. 1:8  The star helped locate the Christ child for some ardent searchers.   Matthew 2:2

The cup holds a reminder of Christís death for us.  Luke 22:20 The torch is used as a symbol of Christís passion and of his ability to light up our dark world.  John 1:4
